An excerpt from "The Cascade Mountain Clan" by Woodrow R. Clevinger, 1971 -
The surname of Stiltner is not generally common over the United States nor in the states of Washington and Oregon. However, it is found to be concentrated in some of the mountain counties of Virginia, West Virginia, and particularly in the Cascade Mountain region of Lewis Count, Washington. The majority of present-day Stiltner families living in the Pacific Coast states of Washington, Oregon and California can trace their immediate ancestry to Lewis County, Washington.
Here their great grandfathers and mothers from southwestern Virginia. Milburn Jackson Stiltner and Franklin Pierce Stiltner were the heads of large pioneer families on the Cascade Mountain frontier from 1900 to 1930. Historical and genealogical information of a general nature of these two lines of related families is recorded.
